Jane Kelsey 'encouraged' by Labour's TPP plans

Leaders from Asia Pacific countries, including New Zealand, are aiming to wrap up a new regional trade deal when they meet in Vietnam this weekend. The controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership was effectively scuttled when Donald Trump made good on a campaign promise and pulled the United States out of the deal.

Now the 11 other countries are trying to push ahead with a new look TPP without the US. The former trade minister, Todd McClay, says there's a good chance of success.

One of the most consistent critics of the old TPP is University of Auckland law professor Jane Kelsey. She tells us it's been encouraging to see Labour's "nuanced approach".
