Ardern refuses to side-step Australia over Manus

From Morning Report, 7:10 am on 6 November 2017

The Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is refusing to side-step Australia and negotiate directly with Papua New Guinea over taking desperate Manus Island detainees. This is despite Malcolm Turnbull putting New Zealand's offer to take 150 refugees on the back burner. Papua New Guinea is now having to deal with the humanitarian crisis of 600 men with no food, running water or health services, holed up in the now closed detention centre and refusing to leave. That was one of several thorny issues discussed by Jacinda Ardern and Malcolm Turnbull during a flying visit to Sydney at the weekend.
