Manus detention centre in chaos as detainees hold out

From Morning Report, 7:27 am on 1 November 2017

Refugees and asylum seekers on Manus Island are defying a deadline to leave the immigration detention centre. Water and power have been cut at the detention centre, and the refugees are fearful Papua New Guinea soldiers and police could storm the complex. Staff disappeared from the centre yesterday before locals reportedly entered and started looting. One of the 600 refugees still inside the centre, Abdul Aziz Adam, accused Australia of negligence. Lawyers for the detainees hope the Supreme Court in Papua New Guinea will today hear an injunction to stop the closure of the centre and the forcible relocation of the men. They are being told to move to three other building in the island's main town but the detainees are worried they won't be safe. RNZ Pacific's Ben Robinson Drawbridge has been following the story.
