Remembering the New Zealand Wars

From Morning Report, 8:15 am on 26 October 2017

This weekend Aotearoa will commemorate the New Zealand Wars for the first time, with the focus on the Northern Wars where the conflicts began soon after the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.

The New Zealand Wars, sometimes referred to as the "wars without end", had serious consequences for Māori including land loss, a sweeping decline in population and a crippling loss of autonomy. RNZ Maori Issues Correspondent Mihingarangi Forbes explains how the Northern wars began.
