The votes are in, they've all been counted and without a single coalition negotiation required, we can finally reveal the winner of the Bird of the Year.
The annual competition is run by Forest and Bird, and with us in RNZ's Christchurch studio to announce the winner is contest coordinator Kimberley Collins.
She tells us the kererū came in second with 4572 votes, followed by the kākāpō with 2554 votes.
