Older cars charged double to enter central London

From Morning Report, 6:46 am on 24 October 2017

Drivers of older, more polluting vehicles now have to pay almost twice as much to drive in central London - the equivalent of $40 a day.

The new charge applies to diesel and petrol vehicles typically registered before 2006, which do not meet the European vehicle emission rules.

The measure is hoped to improve air quality. Correspondent Natalie Powell tells us about 9,000 Londoners die prematurely each year from air pollution.
