Moves by Counties Manukau DHB to encourage some staff to take voluntary redundancy have been described as 'complete bonkers.' The senior doctors union says the decision to offer redundancy to senior clinicians, most on the top salary band, defies all logic. The DHB, which runs Auckland's Middlemore Hospital, says the aim is to free resources and move them to front-line services. Association of Salaried Medical Specialists executive director Ian Powell joins us to discuss the offer.
