National leaving NZ infrastructure in deficit - Grant Robertston

From Morning Report, 7:55 am on 30 August 2017

National is criticising Labour for its spending promises, saying it will double New Zealand's debt. But Labour's finance spokesperson Grant Robertson says the National government has not left the country's infrastructure in debt.

"What we're saying is we'll pay down debt to 20 percent of GDP - which has been the government's target - within five years of getting into office," Mr Robertson tells Morning Report.

"That's a responsible way of approaching it, it's part of our budget responsibility rules. What that means is that's a couple of years later than National, but we think there are significant gaps - infrastructure deficits particularly - in terms of housing."
