A massive tree-planting exercise is underway in Northland to keep silt out of rivers, and save the Kaipara Harbour.
The harbour and the west coast snapper fishery are under threat from sediment build-up and iwi are leading the charge to protect it.
Children from Kokopu School have been out planting native trees along the riverside so that one day it will be good for swimming and doing bombs, or "fat manus".
