China forces home dozens of suspected fraudsters from Fiji

From Morning Report, 7:50 am on 8 August 2017

The mass deportation of more than more than 70 suspected online fraudsters from Fiji to China is being called a violation of Fiji's jurisdiction and sovereignty by human rights advocates.

RNZ Pacific reporter Sally Round told Morning Report all we know about the story is what is being reported from China's state media, as Fiji's authorities are not commenting.

She said 77 people were rounded up and flown back to China at the weekend. "Images show them wearing these masks, and each individually restrained by a uniformed Chinese police officer."
