Censor creates new rating for controversial Netflix series

From Morning Report, 7:25 am on 27 April 2017

The Censor's office has created an entirely new classification specifically for the Netflix show about teenage suicide, 13 Reasons Why. It's now RP18 which means someone under 18 needs to view the series with an adult. "The reason it's RP8 because there's a risk of harm right up until 18 with this show and in fact the risk with suicide and suicidal behaviour increases for 16 and 17 year old relative to earlier age groups, so we thought that guidance was essential in this case," says Jared Mullen, who is the Deputy Chief Censor.
