Yesterday, Hit & Run's author Nicky Hager accused the Prime Minister Bill English of joining a seven year cover up after he ruled out holding an inquiry into claims six civilians were killed in a botched operation led by the SAS.
The Defence Force maintains nine insurgents were killed, but admits civilians may have died when a U.S. attack helicopter misfired.
Marianne Elliott, who worked as a United Nations human rights investigator in Afghanistan in 2006 and 2007 and again in 2012, told Morning Report independent investigations are not unusual if civilians have been killed and the events in the book should be looked into.
