International test of 5-year-olds raises fears

An OECD plan to test five year olds around the world on things like counting and self-control is worrying teachers and researchers in New Zealand.

The International Early Learning and Child Well-being Study will assess children's emerging literacy and numeracy, and their social and emotional skills.

New Zealand has helped the OECD develop the scheme and will soon decide if it should participate in full.
