Kaikoura earthquake rose the seas floor by about 1m

After four months of surveying the Defence Force has found the 7.8 Kaikoura earthquake lifted the sea floor an average of one metre.

They are now advising boaties to navigate the area with caution as some areas will be much shallower than expected.

Lieutenant Commander Philip Davies says ships need to continue to navigate with caution."
