The woman woke up in a quarry in Riverhead early Sunday morning just over a week ago (February 26) to find a man standing above her with a bat.

She had been viciously assaulted.

She has told police she doesn't know how she got there, from Ponsonby in central Auckland, more than 20 kilometres away.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kim Libby says the police are tracking back and are still trying to locate the car.

He says they hope a glove found near where the woman was assaulted could help them find her attacker.
