In November, the UK High Court ruled that Brexit will require a vote in parliament.

Last night the Government was hoping to have that ruling over turned.

But by a vote of 8 to 3, the earlier ruling was upheld.

Campaigner Gina Millar led the action to secure the vote and British hairdresser Deir Dos Santos helped with the campaign.

His lawyer David Greene says last night's Supreme Court decision is vindication for the vote.

"This is a victory for democracy and the rule of law. We should all welcome it.

"Some have asked what is the point of this judgment now that the Prime Minister has said she will give Parliament a vote on the Brexit deal after negotiations.

"We can speculate that she may not have done so had not the cases of my client and Gina Millar been brought to the court."
