A coroner has ruled the death of a boy who was strangled while climbing out a window at a Napier primary school could and should have been avoided.

Aryan Banerjee, who was nine years old, died after his shirt got caught on a window latch as he tried to escape a locked toilet cubicle at Taradale Primary School in May last year.
Neither the police or Worksafe have laid charges.
