The Children's Commissioner is warning New Zealand is at risk of relegating a third generation of children to a life of poverty.
The fourth annual Child Poverty Monitor, which is published this morning, shows while our economy is doing well, close to 8 percent - or 90,000 children - are living in material hardship.
This means they are missing out on basic items such as fresh food, clothing, suitable housing, heating and medical necessities.
The Children's Commissioner, Judge Andrew Becroft, says he wants to talk face to face with the country's new leaders to address the problem, but the whole community needs to play a part.
