The search continues this morning for the eighth person missing after the weekend Kaipara boating tragedy that claimed seven lives.
Kaipara locals yesterday gathered at the local cruising club to remember the men who died when a fishing charter vessel, the Francie, capsized on Saturday crossing the Kaipara Bar.
The dead men were part of a group of Pacific Islanders from Auckland who had chartered the boat.
Only three members of the group survived.
Friends of the boat's skipper, Bill McNatty, gathered all evening and most of Sunday at the Kaipara Cruising club.
The club, which cancelled its prize-giving when news of the tragedy reached them, were also hosting members of the passengers' whanau and friends while they waited for news.
