A 10-storey building in central Wellington, which is at risk of collapse, remains cordoned off this morning.

Yesterday it was found a major structural beam of the building on Molesworth Street has fractured "like a bone".

Three nearby homes and surrounding buildings, including New Zealand Rugby's headquarters, Wellington Cathedral of St Paul and the Thai Embassy, have all been evacuated.
