The unemployment rate has stayed around its record low - at 3.3 percent - for the June quarter, according to Stats NZ.
Wages are rising, they're up 3.4 percent over the last year.
But that's still behind inflation which is at 7.3 percent.
The Council of Trade Unions' economist Craig Rennie spoke to Māni Dunlop.
