Study highlights mis-treatment of hospitality workers

From Midday Report, 12:18 pm on 8 April 2022

New research has shone a severe light on poor employment conditions for hospitality workers in Aotearoa.

An Auckland University of Technology report labelled "Voices from the Front Line" surveyed nearly 400 workers.

Among a raft of critical findings, half of those surveyed said they had experienced or witnessed harassment in the workplace.

Of that group, 40 percent alleged the harassment came from owners, managers or supervisors.

The study's co-author Professor Erling Rasmussen, from the University's New Zealand Work Research Institute, spoke to Māni Dunlop about the unsurprising results.
