The Government has ringfenced nearly $600 million for redeveloping Whangarei Hospital.
The current hospital is plagued with problems -- it does not meet building standards and the Northland District Health Board has been reporting "decay and dilapidation" for years.
Whangārei District Council mayor Sheryl Mai spoke to Māni Dunlop.
