Tongan election down to two contenders

From Midday Report, 12:54 pm on 8 December 2021

The race to become the next Tongan prime minister is down to two, after the caretaker prime minister pulled out of the race.

Nominations close next Tuesday, before a vote happens at a special meeting at parliament.

Those deciding are the 26 members, including the 17 people's representatives, and the 9 Noble representatives.

That latter group will be significant, as the Nobles tend to vote as a block.
