Covid-19: vaccine IP waiver talks suspended due to Omicron

In an unfortunate stroke of irony, international negotiations to waive the intellectual property, or IP, rights for Covid-19 vaccines and treatments have been suspended, due to concerns about the new Omicron variant.

The waiver - proposed by South Africa and India - would make it easier for developing nations to boost their vaccine stocks.

The World Trade Organisation talks were to take place in Geneva, but Switzerland has tightened its borders to slow Omicron's spread.
