Dozens of Australian police and Defence force personnel have begun arriving in the capital Honiara - amid major political unrest.
A protest on Wednesday calling for the Prime Minister to stand down lapsed into looting and burning, which local police have since struggled to contain.
Business owners - whose shops have been ransacked - say they despair at the violence.
