NZ's Emission Reduction plan 'weak, disappointing' - advocates. Minister asks for ideas

From Midday Report, 12:14 pm on 13 October 2021

A document which aims to shape Aotearoa's Emission Reduction plan is being described as weak and disappointing.

Ideas from government ministers and agencies on how the country can become carbon neutral by 2050 are part of the public consultation document released today.

The Government is due to publish an emissions reduction plan in May next year as part of its climate change obligations. But Climate Change advocates say the document doesn't address any of its concerns.

The Climate Change Minister James Shaw tells Māni Dunlop there is still time to improve the plan - and he wants the public's ideas.
