The Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has confirmed the elimination strategy for Covid-19 will remain outside of Auckland.
Public health experts say that means the border surrounding the super city will need to become a lot harder for positive cases to get through.
They also say travel to the South Island should be restricted to essential workers who are double vaccinated, and required to have a PCR and a rapid antigen test.
