Yachts escaping Fiji's cyclone season

From Midday Report, 12:43 pm on 16 September 2021

The Opua business association says it is working with authorities to ensure that delta won't get into the community with the imminent arrival in the Bay of Islands of around 50 yachts escaping Fiji's cyclone season.

New Zealand citizens or people with the relevant visas are allowed to enter Port Opua and are required to isolate for 14 days on board their yachts.

Te Tai Tokerau Border Control spokesperson, Hone Harawira, is worried their arrival could trigger a Covid-19 outbreak.

The chair of the Opua business association, Dan Cleaver, told Māni Dunlop they have been raising their concerns with the council and Northland MP, Willow Jean Prime to ensure their businesses and the community are safe.
