Waitangi Tribunal to hear narratives of wāhine Māori
The Waitangi Tribunal has heard male historians have too long determined the narratives of wāhine Māori, which has contributed to the negation of their strength in society. The Mana Wāhine Inquiry tuapapa or pre-hearings are underway, which are exploring the tikanga of mana wāhine and the pre-colonial understanding of wāhine in te ao Māori; That will then set the context for the inquiry. Dr Ella Henry wears many potae (hats) - but one yesterday was giving evidence at the inquiry in Whangarei. She joins Māni Dunlop on Midday Report.
