Large police presence at controversial Waiheke marina development

From Midday Report, 12:44 pm on 17 June 2021

There's a large police presence at Putiki Bay, Kennedy Point, on Waiheke Island where Putiki protectors are trying to stop construction. They're worried a digger removing rocks at the marina could displace kororā (little blue penguins) and their burrows. Local residents, mana whenua and environmental groups have raised concerns. They're worried it could force the kororā to flee into the sea where they could drown. The protectors are calling for a stop work order. Waiheke Local Board's deputy chairperson Kylee Matthews speaks to Perlina Lau from the under-construction marina.
