Sustainable biofuels - a stepping stone for NZ

From Midday Report, 12:44 pm on 15 June 2021

The proposed clean car subsidy is copping criticism from some sectors because the grunty vehicles they need, such as utes for farm work, rely on internal combustion engines. But they are burning fossil fuels, and transport accounts for nearly half (47%) of the country's carbon emissions. So, the government is asking for feedback on a Sustainable Biofuels Mandate, which would require fuel suppliers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3.5 percent by 2025. One company that's been trying to develop biofuels here is Z Energy. Its strategy lead, Sheena Thomas, speaks to Perlina Lau about the challenges ahead.
