Three police officers on trial for manslaughter over cell death

From Midday Report, 12:16 pm on 17 May 2021

The trial of three police officers charged with the manslaughter of a Taranaki man has begun at the High Court in New Plymouth. He died in the cells soon after his arrest - the Crown alleges the officers were negligent in their duty of care. They have pleaded not guilty. Police at the time said the decision to file charges was not taken lightly - and at the advice of a Queen's Counsel. RNZ'S Taranaki Whanganui reporter Robin Martin speaks to Max Towle.
