Covid-19 vaccine waivers a monumental step in pandemic fight

The head of the World Health Organisation is hailing a move to get rid of patent protections for Covid-19 vaccines as a monumental step in the fight against the pandemic. The US president Joe Biden now supports waiving intellectual property rights to help produce more vaccines globally, and New Zealand's trade minister Damien O'Connor tweeted he strongly supports the proposal. But it would need the support of all 164 members of the World Trade Organisation to take effect. OXFAM NZ spokesperson Joanna Spratt speaks to Emma Hatton.
