Murderer Venod Skantha dies in jail - reports

From Midday Report, 12:12 pm on 15 April 2021

The former Dunedin doctor who murdered teenager Amber-Rose Rush is understood to have taken his own life behind bars. Venod Skantha had his appeal against his murder conviction tossed out by the Court of Appeal yesterday afternoon. The 33-year-old was serving a sentence of life imprisonment with a 19-year non-parole period. He stabbed the 16-year-old, Miss Rush, to death in February 2018 to prevent her coming forward with career-ending claims. RNZ's Otago-Southland reporter Timothy Brown extensively covered Skantha's trial and speaks to Joe Porter.
