The ACT Party is calling on the government to reverse its ban on gas exploration, saying it will be the fastest way to reduce emissions.
New data shows coal imports were up 41 percent in the December 2020 quarter when compared with the same period in 2019.
Figures from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment also show the amount of coal imported last year was greater than in 2017 and 2018 combined.
