The senior doctors' union and the New Zealand Medical Association have thrown their support behind an independent Māori Health Authority, saying setting it up should be front and centre for government.
The Health and Disability System Review, chaired by Heather Simpson, included a recommendation for such an a Authority - but members were split on whether it should have the power to commission and fund services, with an "alternative view" buried in the report calling for those greater powers.
