The police strongly refute accusations they are using facial recognition technology to profile innocent Māori youths.
RNZ has revealed police are approaching innocent young people, photographing them, collecting their personal details and sending it all to a national database.
There are concerns police are using those details to profile Māori youth and train facial recognition software to recognise Māori faces.
Today, police also announced its new, independent, expert panel to ensure any technology they use is well-considered.
