The Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, says Kaumatua and Māori won't necessarily be at the front of the queue in the vaccine roll-out, but they will not be left behind.
Ms Ardern made the comments while attending a virtual Iwi Chair Forum in Whangarei this morning.
The vaccine schedule was one of the key concerns raised by iwi.
