Waikouaiti and Karitane residents are furious they've been kept in the dark for months after the Dunedin City Council revealed lead was first detected in the towns' water supply in August.

Nearly six months after receiving the first positive test results, the council advised residents not to use tap water on Tuesday.
No one from the Dunedin City Council was available for an interview.
