A Wellington City Councillor is welcoming the government's move to scrap local polls that can block councils establishing Māori Wards.
Local Government Minister Nanaia Mahuta made the announcement yesterday, calling the polls discriminatory.
A bill is expected to be passed under urgency this month, allowing Māori Wards to be established - if Councils vote to do so - in time for the 2022 elections.
