Māori leaders at Unitec resign due to what they call institutional racism

From Midday Report, 12:46 pm on 29 January 2021

Māori leaders at Auckland's Unitec are resigning amidst accusations of institutional racism.

The Chair of the institute's Runanga, Tui ah Loo, who has worked at the institution for 21 years, has resigned due to the disrespect shown to Māori.

This morning, in a ceremony led by kaumātua, Ms Ah Loo, removed a photo of her father, Sir John Turei, who was integral in the establishment of the marae from the campus today to make a clear stance to the institution.

RNZ's reporter, Ella Stewart, is at Unitecs Te Kotahitanga Marae, and spoke to Māni Dunlop.
