NZ urged to ramp up border measures against new covid strain

More than 40 countries have now banned travellers from the UK in response to a new Covid-19 variant - though New Zealand's borders remain open to them.

Top health officials in the UK say there is no evidence the new variant is more deadly, but it is proving to be up to 70 more percent transmissible.

It's led to fresh calls for more stringent border controls here.
