Ōtara community woking hard to shake off criminal stereotype

From Midday Report, 12:45 pm on 10 December 2020

The police say they are seeing a reduction in crime in the Ōtara town centre, driven by good relationships and programmes in partnership with the community.

Ōtara saw a spate of shootings last month, which led to an order for officers to temporarily carry firearms.

Arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.

At that time, Midday Report spoke to the Area Commander for Counties Manukau East, Inspector Wendy Spiller -- now, a few weeks on, she told Māni Dunlop about the work being done in the community to reduce crime.
