The High Court has rebuffed a 2019 decision by the Thames Coromandel District Council to not sign a climate emergency declaration that has been signed by dozens of other local governments.
The court found that the council should have consulted with the community before making the call not to sign the Local Government Leaders Climate Change Declaration.
