NZers should have confidence in Govt use of facial recognition

From Midday Report, 12:15 pm on 4 December 2020

The Privacy Commissioner says New Zealanders can have confidence that there are good controls in place to regulate how facial recognition technology is used by Government.

A report from Victoria University found there is a gap in regulations over the use of facial recognition by government departments, the police, and private companies.

They found the systems have become too powerful in this country, and facial recognition technology must be regulated more.

But the Privacy Commissioner, John Edwards told our producer, Denise Garland, that he disagrees with many of those concerns.
