The Democratic Presidential hopeful, Joe Biden, is closing in on the US presidency, with 253 of the 270 electoral college votes required to win.
The Republican Party candidate, Donald Trump, has 213 votes.
Mr Biden said he believed he will be named the winner once all votes are counted.
Mr Trump's campaign team announced they have taken legal action to stop the counting of votes in Michigan, a state which has been called for Joe Biden within the past few hours.
In the state's capital, Detroit, protesters have clashed with police and election officials.
