Māori midwives head says OT targets mothers at their weakest

From Midday Report, 12:42 pm on 27 October 2020

The head of Mōri midwives says the taking of Māori babies just after birth targets the mother when she is at her weakest.

The second week of the Waitangi Tribunal hearing into the disproportionate number of tamariki Māori in state care is underway in Hastings.

The midwife at the centre of the removal of a six-day-old baby in Hastings last year - which exposed the systemic removal of Māori babies by Oranga Tamariki - Jean Te Huia, has been giving evidence.

Meriana Johnsen has been following the hearing and spoke to Te Aniwa Hurihanganui.
