The people of Napier are being told there's no need to panic after a local child returned a weak-positive Covid-19 result when they arrived in Japan.
The child attended a local childcare centre and was on an Air New Zealand flight from Napier to Auckland last week.
They had tested negative before leaving the country, but tested positive on arrival in Japan.
Health officials and the Napier mayor are all playing down the chances the virus has spread in the community.
RNZ reporter, Jonathan Mitchell, has been following the developments and spoke to Te Aniwa Hurihanganui.
