New Zealanders are living longer in poorer health according to an international report published in The Lancet today.

The Global Burden of Disease Study has found that the average life expectancy for those living in Aotearoa is almost 82 years, but our healthy life expectancy is only 69-point-4 years.

That means the average New Zealander will spend at least 13 years living in poor health.

Professor Ali Mokdad, from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington speaks to Te Aniwa Hurihanganui.
